Trail Description
About this trail
You can leave your suspension forks at home for the ride on the canal, but do bring an extra water bottle along--the Georgia humidity is a biker's worst nightmare. The singletrack starts at the pumping station by the railroad tracks. There are two well marked loops, a red (about 4 miles) and white (about 3 miles). If you stick to the canal, the ride can be a leisurely Saturday afternoon stroll with the family, an intense endurance-building workout or a shortcut to historic downtown Augusta. Be sure to check out what's going on at Riverwalk. There are often concerts or shows at the ampitheater, a large Christmas tree and festive decorations in the winter, and in the summer there is a large fountain of water in the center of Riverwalk to cool off in. You can also grab a bite to eat at one of the many restaurants, visit Fort Discovery or the Augusta Art Museum, and have a snowcone.

Review: Not much of a "Mountain Bike" trail. Pumping station is the only real single track in the area connected to this trail, but lets face it....If you are in this area and are looking for a single track trail worth riding, go to F.A.T.S., its just down the road, Several trails within this area that are more mountain bike ready. Trail has areas that travel along the canal that are not the greatest.

Review: Awesome flat trail with a mix of dirt, gravel and pavement. Can be busy on the weekend with people walking. Lovely view of the water!

Review: This is a good path if you want to burn some time and enjoy nature without going to far from home. I liked listening to the rapids while riding on the trail. A lot of walkers and runners on the path. The path is literally a dirt road (Georgia Red Dirt) almost all the way. There are plenty of places to stop and enjoy the scenery.

Review: Good way to burn a few calories. Wide, easy trail with an 2.4-mile MTB loop at the pump house trailhead for those feeling a bit froggy. Very popular when the weather is cool. Lots of runners, dogs (never run into any aggressive ones though!), walkers, etc.

Review: The Augusta Canal Authority and the local biking community has done a great job with the canal trail and the singletrack mountain bike trail. It is amazing what has been done in the last few years to this area.

Review: For what this is--a flat, wide dirt path--it's pretty awesome. Great views and even opportunities for singletrack along the ride. Plus the canal is a great option for getting between the suburbs and downtown.

Review: Runner: north from pump house, ie Augusta Waterworks building, is packed gravel, flat and shady... great for summer runs/rides. South of the pump house is open, flat, not much shade. It's an easy getaway from metro Augusta that doesn't have many places to run/ride without competing with traffic.

Review: Flat, shaded, dirt and nice views. You can drive a car down the trail but not the bridges. Good after work ride or recovery ride.
