Trail Description
About this trail
Completion of the Dover Community Trail is an ongoing project that was initiated by the desire of residents to preserve undeveloped land along key waterways as recorded in the 1970′s Master Plan, which fueled efforts by the City to acquire property with significant conservation value. In the late 1990′s, conservation land acquisition began to focus on creating a trail system to connect these areas. The Dover Community Trail was formally planned to be an eight mile pathway crossing the City.

Projects to build the full trail system are ongoing. The completed sections have been a combined effort of dedicated City resident volunteers, sponsorship by local caring organizations, funding through government grants, and project management oversight by the City of Dover Department of Planning and Community Development.

The Dover Community Trail of today follows a former railroad bed through the urban core, offers a direct picturesque path to the Downtown Transportation Center over the Cochecho River via a rehabilitated wooden train bridge, and continues to follow the river through rural natural environments.

Continued support of the community is needed to fully realize the vision for the trail. Explore our website to learn more about the trail, and discover ways you can get involved as an individual or as an organization.
