Trail Description
About this trail
Paradise Valley Conservation Area Trails
Located 1.5 miles east of Hwy 522 on Paradise Lake road in Maltby, WA (just North of Woodinville). The county bought the land as a Conservation area (about 800 acres) for wildlife and wetlands protection around 2003 and closed access to the whole area. After several years and a lot of work primarily by local Mountain Bikers a portion of the area was re-opened with re-routed more environmentally friendly trails. The area consists of approx. 12 miles of trails although only about 8 miles of trails for biking. There are a few walking only trails (please respect these) and one bike only trails but most are open to bikes, hiking and horses. The Mainline trail is fairly smooth but does have some light rooty sections and two slight hills. It does not make a loop requiring either backtracking or taking other trails (which are much rootier and twistier) back to the main parking lot. Most of the other trails are fairly rooty with lots of twists and turns and only a few climb/descents. The trails are primarily somewhere between advanced beginner and intermediate in difficulty with the main challenge being roots, lots of exposed roots. Recent trails work in the past few years has eliminated much of the mud that had been a real issue during the winter here in the Pacific North Wet.

Q: Is this trail good for toddlers riding on the back of your bike or in a trailer? -Guest

A: The first half of the Mainline trail is wide enough that a trailer might be okay, but even it has enough roots that I don't think it would work well. Plus you'd be limited to a short section of trail, just out and back to the parking lot. Most of the trails here are very narrow with lots of roots and tight twists and turns. Great for some, not much fun for others.

Q: Hello! I just started the family mountain biking, and everyone loves it. I am 46, wife 40, daughter 10, son 8. i am looking for a few trails in Washington (we live in Seattle) to explore. We are not technical riders and are learning. We've done the paved trails like Sammamish River, but ready for some dirt. Can anyone recommend some very easy rides for kids 10 and 8? -Guest

A: what size wheels do their bikes have? With my kids they had/have a really hard time with the roots with 20" wheels. 24" wheels make it much easier for them. Most of Paradise can be challenging for beginners, mostly due to the amount of exposed roots. Duthie has some nice beginner trails like Bootcamp. Also Big Finn Hill has far less roots and smoother trails. St. Edwards would also be a good area to start with.

Review: Cold and wet but if you like slippery roots this is the best trail in the area to work on your technical skills. If you are a beginner and its wet you probably should avoid Lloyds and Two Trees as they can demoralize a beginner due to the root gardens.

Review: Great spot for near the city and really good for novice riders. The Main Trail is really low key - fast and not technical. Then the multiple side trails are great to gain experience on some more technical sections without big hills. Lots of roots and some pretty tight turns. Having the multiple side loops allow you to make the ride as long or short as you want. Great conditions.

Review: Good network of XC trails, lots of roots and short technical climb sections, the one "downhill" section has some more advanced intermediate obstacles. Gets crowded with hikers / families around noon, recommend hitting this one early.

Review: Great trail for beginner and intermediate mountain bikers! There is a one way loop for advanced bikers with a jump at the end and a very narrow boardwalk bridge. Lot of flowy areas as well as some more technical places with roots and switchbacks. Highly recommended place for some great mountain biking!

Review: Sweet single track with roots, roots, and more roots! Spent over 2 hours exploring the trails. You can do easy cruising to some expert obstacles. If you come out while its wet, make sure you know how to clear roots cleanly. And watch your lines. The guys who made the trails set up some pretty clever lines around the turns. There's a new trail if you haven't been out here in a while called Rogue Fern. Some good flow elements and surprisingly few roots. Exceptionally well maintained. Kudos to the volunteers who keep up the trails here.

Review: I've been here two times, once with my two boys ages 5 and 10 and one other time on my own and it has been a blast both times. The trails are well marked. The mainline is great for my kids to ride to build their confidence and have some fun, while some of the single tracks are tight and technical, lots of roots, a great challenge to build your skills. I will be visiting here often through the year.

Review: Great multi-use paths. Watch the sign posts - not all trails are open to bikes. Respect non-bike users who may have trouble hearing you coming down the hill, around the bend. It's okay to slow down, don't assume the path is clear.

Review: Do you like roots, lots of roots? Not a lot of climbs but lots of twists and turns and roots. Recent trail work has made issues with mud mostly a thing of the past, even a day or two after a big rain.

Review: The area is NOT closed and is wonderful. Beginner to intermediate level trails. Roots are the major obstacles on the trails. Only one trail is one-way and all are shared with hikers (some with horses too).
